Boost in Traffic
If you participate in the weekly and sometimes daily, share threads you can see a great boost in blog traffic. Some share posts are for tweeting, while others are for comments or sharing on Facebook. If you’re in the right groups then you’ll find great posts to share on your own social media that will be super relevant for your audience.
I try to participate in a couple of these threads in different groups each day. This way the same people won’t be tweeting, sharing or stumbling my posts and I won’t be sharing the same content over and over again.
The Not So Good Things about Facebook Blogging Groups
Not Everyone Participates Equally
One of my biggest pet peeves about Facebook blogging groups is people not reciprocating. In my opinion, if you’re going to participate and post something in a share group it’s only fair to reciprocate. While it might take me some time to get through all of the links, I always finish and follow through.
In my opinion, if I’m going to share your link on a “share everything” thread, then you should share mine.
People Missing Sharing Buttons
If you’re going to participate in a StumbleUpon share thread, then you should have a StumbleUpon button on your site. To me, this is just common courtesy to your fellow blogger. There are lots of free options like Sumo.com and Shareaholic so this really shouldn’t be an issue.
Personally, I always do share the posts and submit them manually if there’s no button but it really is a time saver if that button is already there.
People Post the Strangest Things
There are a couple of more spammy groups where people will post strange links to the weirdest items on Amazon. I participated in one “pin everything” thread where half of the pins were to either shower curtains (linked to Amazon) or Paw Patrol pyjamas (also linked to Amazon). Where do I even pin all of these shower curtains and pyjamas! This experience taught me not to participate in that group’s threads again…
Does it Give Bloggers a False Traffic Boost?
Is it a good thing if all of your page views are coming from sharing posts on Facebook blogging groups? Honestly, I’m not sure. I think these shares are important as they disseminate your posts to a new audience but I think it’s important not to put all of your eggs in one basket.
Like almost everything in the blogging world, diversification is important. The boost from share threads is awesome, I just don’t rely on Facebook as my only traffic source.
Overall, I think Facebook sharing groups are great. The positives definitely outweigh any of the negatives once you find the right groups for you. Here are some groups that I love:
- Naptime Nation
- Growing Social Media for Bloggers
- Boss Moms
- Mom to Mompreneur
- Blogging with a Smile
- Adventures in Blogging
Do you participate in Facebook blogging groups? Which one is your favourite?
