One Simple Way to Save Money Shopping Online

Sharing is caring!

Shopping shopping and more shopping!  Whether we’re buying food, toiletries, clothing or toys I feel like I’m shopping all the time. With the amount of stuff I find myself buying on the web every month, I feel like I need to find a way to save money shopping online!

Internet shopping is easy, pretty quick and convenient. I often find myself buying clothing for my whole family on the web. Once everything arrives,  we can try it on in the privacy of our own home (which makes me feel better when things don’t fit the way I hope they will). Plus, it  gives me time to convince R that wearing pants with buttons won’t ruin his life… (seriously, the life of a 5 year old lol)

Here's one simple way to save money shopping online. Check out this post for helpful money saving tips.

How you too can Save Money Shopping Online with Ebates

Please note, I’m an affiliate for Ebates Canada and Ebates USA. If you decide to sign up for Ebates and make a purchase from a merchant site, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. For additional information please see my Disclaimer.

A while back I discovered Ebates and have been using it ever since. Ebates is an online shopping site. In addition to offering a variety of stores to shop from, Ebates also gives you cash back every time you make a purchase. Cash back rates can range from less than 1.0% all the way up to almost 20%! If you’ve earned money back they send you a cheque several days later you can deposit at your leisure.

Signing Up

Signing up is easy. At the top right hand corner of the Ebates site there’s a little “sign up here” button. When you click on it you can either use your Facebook account or your email address to sign up.

Once you sign up you need to provide your mailing address so they can send you rebate cheques.

Making a Purchase

Buying what you need via Ebates is easy as well. Using the site adds an extra step, but I think the extra step is worth it if I save money in the long run.

For example, if I need to buy R a sweatshirt I’ll go to the Ebates site and see which retailers are listed. I like buying R’s sweatshirts at Gap Kids so I’ll check and see if that store is there and sure enough it is. The numbers next to the store names represent the percent cash back being offered at any specific time. Keep in mind that these amounts are changing all the time. When I took this snapshot from the Ebates site Gap Canada was offering 6% cash back.

Once you press on the Gap Canada link you get taken to the Ebates Gap Canada site where you’re asked if you want to keep shopping:

Press the “Shop Now” button and it takes you to the Gap Canada website where you can do all of your shopping. If you buy something, great – you’ll get money back. If you don’t buy anything that’s fine too.

Once you’ve completed your purchases you’ll get an email from Ebates stating exactly how much you’ve earned.

Just last week, E and I made some purchases and will be getting $20  back on stuff we needed to buy anyway.

Another helpful way to save money shopping online is by signing up for Ebates emails and using their coupons. You can also use the retailer’s general coupons as well. So if Gap Canada is having a 40% off sale I can get that discount plus the 6% cash back from Ebates. 46% off is pretty decent if you ask me!

Just a note, the Canadian Ebates and US Ebates sites are the same in terms of signing up and how the process works but are different websites. According to Ebates Canada you can become a member of both.

If you have any great tips for saving money shopping online please let me know in the comments!
