Even at the best of times I can struggle with my motivation. Whether it’s to have positive thoughts or get my side gig going I’m often in need of inspiration and encouragement.
I also find that reading positive and motivational books can have a huge impact on my outlook, my patience and my ability to show up with the best attitude possible.
Plus, in running my own business one of our four key behaviours is to read professional development books every day. After doing all of this reading for the past couple of years I’ve noticed a difference in myself and my level of optimism. I’ve also started a lovely library of motivational books and I wanted to share a few with you:

Personally, I enjoy reading physical books. There’s just something about the feel of paper and turning pages that I love. Go ahead, call me old school, I’m ok with it! If you prefer the idea of an ebook, check out the Kindle Unlimited Membership.
Now on to the best motivational books list:
This was one of the first personal development books I read when I started my business. I thought it would be helpful not only in my coaching but at work as well.
I was totally right. At the time I read it I was in a job that wasn’t ideal for me and I was struggling to find the positivity in the situation. This book helped me do that. It made me realize how I was responsible for my own happiness and I had to do my best to make it happen.

In this book Jen Sincero tells you like it is with her honest take on how awesome we all are. It’s a motivating and quick read and definitely worth checking out especially given these challenging times.
People have loved her honesty so much that she’s written follow up books on maintaining a positive money mindset and on how to live like a badass everyday. Both of those books are on my future reading lists!
If you’ve ever contemplated starting a business or working in a managerial capacity, this book is a great way, along with The Compound Effect, of demonstrating how small changes can make a huge difference in your life.
Whether you’re looking to get healthier or pick up a new hobby, the Slight Edge shows you how to get it done in an incremental and doable way.
This book also teaches the reader not to rush, to be aware that things take time and that’s ok. No one is an overnight success, even if it may seem that way sometimes.
Another “must read” about how all of the small things you do each day can build to something great (or something not so great depending on your choices). After reading this motivational book you’ll realize how you too can change your life and goals.
As I continue to read personal and professional development books I’m going to continue to add them to this post.
